Bennett had another assessment done today by the Assistive Communication Clinic team. His current device is a Minimo and has become a bit limiting. The new device will have hundreds of symbols pre-programmed as well as a voice synthesizer. It will enable him to spell, change tenses and form sentences. Some of the words sound kind of funny and apparently it can't say certain words. Even so, I think it will be helpful in that it will provide Bennett with a better opportunity to express himself as well as to continue to develop his language skills.
Ultimately I'm still hoping for real words using Bennett's voice. We have made some progress in this area but realistically we have years of speech therapy ahead of us. I'll try to get some video of Bennett saying something other than "mama" or "dada" for a future post but he's not always that cooperative - especially when a camera is involved!

Looks like Bennett is well on his way to the next level.
It will be a learning process for all of us but progress is exciting especially when "professionals" see it too.
