Stealing a Great Idea

I'm stealing this idea from Kara's blog: http://bumbleblog-kasia.blogspot.com/

It's a perfect follow-up to my post yesterday about trying to take things one day at a time, enjoying the moment and not worrying too much about the future.

So, here's my list of TEN THINGS THAT MADE ME SMILE TODAY

#10. The smell of basil freshly picked from my garden.

#9. My huge zucchini. We always plant one zucchini plant and it always does well. In 2006 we won 3rd prize at the Massey Agricultural Fair. We didn't enter in 2007 but we are considering this year as we currently have a monster brewing in the garden.

#8. The feel of a soft, warm, horse nose under my hand.

#7. Pictures or Bird's little guy Charlie: http://birdonthestreet.blogspot.com/

#6. The Bee picture of Kasia on the sidebar of Kara's blog: http://bumbleblog-kasia.blogspot.com/

#5. My mother taking credit for the fall of the Berlin wall in the comment section of yesterday's post.

#4. Watching Bennett and his daddy sleeping together in the trailer this morning.

#3. Bowser.
#2. The A&P incident. I went grocery shopping by myself today which turned out to be a good thing because Jim would never have let me do what I did. When I came out of the store there was a car parked right in front of the door blocking the ramp. So, I decided to wait and talk to the owner. When he came out I politely informed him that he had chosen a horrible place to park as it made it very difficult for people with carts and impossible for anyone in a wheelchair. He agreed, apologized and looked very shameful. (Before anyone suggests that maybe he had a physical problem I just wanted to state that he looked very healthy and if his issue was not visible then he could have just parked 5 feet further ahead and NOT blocked the ramp.) Even before I spent a few months in a wheelchair, this kind of thing drove me nuts. Now it bugs me even more. Somehow, it made me feel a lot better to talk to this guy.
#1. This morning we went out to the farm where our neice Amber rides horses. We walked around the stables and were introduced to the animals. At one point, Amber was trying to throw some hay into one of the stalls and it fell all over her head. This made us all laugh but Bennett thought it was one of the funniest things he'd ever seen. I wish I could've got that on tape but instead I have the video below of Bennett petting one of the horses that Amber was grooming.

Yes, good things do happen to good people - and stealing a great idea is one of them.

Glad to hear that the barn visit went well. Bennett surely looks comfortable as he `pets` the horse. Smiles all around. He is braver than Mummu! Great Video!

I did not want to comment of Suzie giving a `helping hand` in the taking down of the Berlin Wall but then she too is entitled to her `15 minutes of fame`! Where would we be without Grandma. Three cheers for Grandma!!

Take care and God Bless!

Oh the things that happen at the local A & P. I might have run into you this morning, but that darn Kasia dragged me down to Homesense and Michaels to shop for her new bedroom instead. I was forced to buy a bedside lamp and some pretty ribbons with which to embellish it. She almost had me suckered into buying her a mini armchair as well, but I drew the line.

So nice zucchini! Do you cook or bake with them?

And cute video of Bennett with the horse too. He's so happy and smiley all the time!

All in all, a great list! Something we should all do more often.

Yeah! So glad you helped that guy see the light. Probably better than my plan which is to accost people in the middle of Target and yell at them. I, too, am bugged by how many places just ignore the fact that some people are in wheelchair or use walkers.

Charlie makes me smile too!

What a great idea for a post. I loved the video of Bennett! He has the most captivating smile (even with the pacifier in!)

Way to stand up for all people who need the ramp. That drives me nuts also! There are so many people who use the ramps (strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, people who have difficulties on little steps, etc..) . That is nice the the guy was so apologetic.

Good for you - for waiting to talk to the fellow who parked in front of the ramp. You are so right - we often do not appreciate the impact of our decisions.

I loved the video of Bennett with the horse. When does he get to ride??

Thank you for sharing your life blessings as well as challenges. Blessings shared are doubled - struggles shared are halved.

Hope your day is blessed.

Mummu - Glad you agree - any great idea is worth stealing!

Kara - I know that Kasia is a determined little girl but I had now idea that she was such a forceful shopper! I can't wait to see the new room. As for the zucchini - I stuff them, I bake with them and I enter them in agricultural fairs to everyone's great amusement.

Bird - I'm not above accosting anyone and giving them a piece of my mind. That guy just caught me on a good day.

Kiera - Yeah - that pacifier. I limit it at home but let him have it when we go out. I wonder if the school photographer will let him have it in his class pictures?:)

Bonnie - I'm so glad you've been hanging around the blog! As for riding - we thought it would be a good idea to get him close to a horse first. Hippotherapy (horseback riding) is supposed to be great for kids with CP and they offer it here in town. It is definitely something we will pursue.

Okay, so it took me a while to get an account to comment here, but at least I made it.

That is a great video of the boy and the horse (and my girl too). His daddy doesn't even look too freaked out.

Amber and I had a great time with you guys at the barn. We'll have to do it again soon. Maybe he can go for a little ride.
