Updates

I wore pants and these shoes to the wedding. While seated I took them off under the table. After 5 hours we left - I was in significant but manageable pain. It was a nice evening out.

Then on Monday, Bennett got sick. His main symtom was crankiness and a high fever. We took him to the doctor on Tuesday who diagnosed an ear infection. Sometimes I think they just make that up but what the heck do I know. The result is antibiotics for the next 10 days. He's feeling much better - which makes me happy. Who wants to look at that face all day?

Murphy is making friends - at least with our neighbour's poodle Jack. That's a good thing because he certainly isn't winning any points with Grandma. Yesterday he knocked over a vase of flowers and then proceeded to eat them. He brought her new ones today - hopefully she forgives him...

Speaking of Murphy - he's not winning any points with Jim either. This morning he had to chase the puppy across our wet lawn in socks after he escaped from our living room. The video below shows another epic battle - one that seems to be replayed on a daily basis.

Other than dealing with a sick two year old and a 13 week old puppy, I've been busy working and feeling rushed and tired much of the time. Tell me working moms - does it get easier??

One more picture of Murphy. As annoying as he is at times, we have grown incredibly fond of the little guy. He slept in that position for quite a while - silly puppy....

The shoes look great. Glad to hear you had a good time at the wedding.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bennett's ear infection. I don't think they make it up, because as you know, kids have a propensity for these maladies because of their eustachian tube length. The good news - he'll grow out of it. He looks so miserable. The other good news - kids get better so fast!

Aline & I laughed out loud watching Jim crawl under the crib to get Murphy! Ah, the joys of a puppy. While you want to give them away one minute, they capture your heart by sleeping in your arms, or sleeping - 1/2 on the couch and 1/2 on the chair.

Weather here in Florida is gorgeous. We are going to the Flea Market today, then to Mass. Take good care, and love to you all.

Sorry Bennett is sick. That is no fun, glad he seems to be getting better. What a sad little face.

Glad the wedding went well, the shoes worked out well for you!

I think Murphy is VERY CUTE though I never want one LOL!

we were never so happy to see Barbara and Jim in our lives. What a day that was. I don't know which was worst, the puppy or/and Bennett. I swear that those two work together to plan mischief that will test grandma AND grandpa's patience to the max. At one point I had Bennett "rearanging" the stuff on the coffee table and Murphy grab the newspaper and RUNNNNNNN.
I'd grab one and chase the other around the house and out onto the deck tripping over dog and baby toys.
At one point I had a hold of Bennett with his naked feet dangling which Murphy interpreted as being a new game called "nibbling Bennett's feet and make grandma cry game!
Just when I thought I'd had all I could take I spotted Murphy sprawled out on the couch sleepging and Bennett playing with his toys and grandpa sleeping in his chair. This is when I began to really doubt my sanity! How could things change so quickly from bedlam to this wonderful peacefullness scene?
After all this, I am still looking forward to having the terrible 2, back again for the day on Tuesday.
Lots of love, hugs and kisses.
p.s. Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers, Murphy! And I love you in spite of all our skirmishes. Lots of love, hugs and kisses to you too, Murphy

Glad the wedding attire worked out. Sorry little Bennett had the sickies, he looked just pitiful in that picture. Still cute but just sad, sad.

Murphy seems like quite a character. ;) I've enjoyed the Murphy Chronicles.

Murphy sounds like quite the character. I like that dog already. And CUTE! But, I don't have to put up with the little things Murphy does to annoy you ;)

I hope that the antibio's have kicked in and are working for B! He's still just as precious as can be, even as a sickie!

Now, I've read the previous posts and I see the "shoe concern". I am very proud that you were able to wear the loafers for 5 hours! Amazing! I would have gone with the boots and your pants... who cares what it looked like :) Yay for you Barb. I'm so disconnected with everybody...

Re: working motherhood. It will get easier. Pretty soon you'll be a well-oiled machine!
Glad you had a nice time at the wedding!

I am glad that you were able to have a nice evening out and that the loafers worked (at least for some time)

I hope that Bennett is feeling better. ear infections are no fun!

The video was so cute! I laughed so hard watching Jim crawl under the crib. The joys of having animals in the house!

As for the working Mommy thing - I can say that some weeks are harder than others. Some weeks I feel like I have everything in order and that I am giving Little Dude everything I have and more. There are other weeks where I feel like the worst Mom in the world and that I am making an awful decision. In the end, I just keep looking at how happy Little Dude is and know that I am making the right decision. I also tell Drew that I reserve the right at any time to decide that it is no longer the right decision and do something completely different.

Feel free to drop me an e-mail or call if you want to talk. It does get better!

Barara, you would love the Shopping Outlets at St. Augustine. They have a store dedicated to 'Crocs' - from everyday wear to party shoes, heels and all. The store is so busy you can hardly more in it.

re: Bennett and/or Murphy.
Daddy Jim had a puppy named Buffy who loved nibbling on 'ears' until finally Dr. Koop bandaged Jim's head (covering his ears)so Buffy had to go find something else to chew on. It worked. We kept Buffy and Jim kept his ears. All is well that ends well.

Is Suzie loosing much weight with the 'boy and his dog'? It is so true that one will lead the other into mischief, but, would you have it any other way?

Also good to know that ear infections pass (although not soon enough for mom and dad).
